USS Cony 2009 Reunion in Lansing, MI Planning stage. |
USS Cony 2009 Reunion Update Final arrangements for the Lansing, MI 2009 Cony reunion are near completion. For your planning purposes, here is what we have so far. Your co-Hosts are Ken Cox and Charlie Liken, and the dates are Wednesday, 6/24/09 thru check out on Sunday, 6/28/09. Hotel: Holiday Inn West, 7501 W. Saginaw Hwy., Lansing, MI 48917 Phone: 517-627-3211 The Cony Reunion Room Rate: $82 per night plus 12% tax ($92 for a suite). A hot buffet breakfast is definitely included in this rate, and the rates are good two days prior and two days after the reunion. This Holiday Inn has recently undergone renovations and is in an excellent location, near I-69 / I-96 (which run together in this area.) On Thursday we will have a trip to Mt Pleasant, MI to the Soaring Eagle Casino. Leaving at 9:00 am and returning to the hotel at 6:00 pm. The trip there and back will consume 3 of those hours, so that leaves 6 hours for gaming and lunch at the Casino. The cost will be $25.00 but participants will get that $25.00 back in the form of a $5.00 coupon for any lunch and a $20 Players Club Slot Card. Currently Thursdays is also Senior Day wherein Seniors are given an additional Coupon Booklet. (This promotion may or may not be active next June.) The Casino has a lunch buffet for $16.75 ($11.75 with $5 coupon) or for just a salad bar, it is $11.75 ($6.75 with $5 coupon). Charlie Liken is currently working on arrangements for a Friday, tour of Lansing's newest GM Assembly plant. A two hour tour with only 30 persons per tour, so 2 or possibly 3 tours may have to be planned. For those who do not opt for the Casino or the GM Plant, trips to the Michigan State Capitol will possibly be arranged. Meals and prices of our dinners have not been finalized as of yet. We are planning a Friday evening buffet and, of course, our Saturday Farewell Banquet. We again plan to have a double entree plate for our Banquet Menu. The Cony Idol contest (Karaoke) was well received at San Antonio and was voted to be held again in 2009. All efforts will be made to have this contest again, after the Friday Buffet Dinner. In 2008, the $100 prize money was voted to be put back into Association Funds, but as long as we get enought singers (good, bad or otherwise) the prize money will be given to the winner. Ken's daughter, Pamela, is very active in Karaoke and could possibly host our evening. |
